Six Policemen, including a senior officer, were each handed a twenty year jail term for their involvement in a conspiracy to rob a businessman of his money in a frame-up episode.

It was very shocking that officers who were supposed to protect citizens turned out to be the ones making their lives and property insecure. For police officers to conspire to rob an unsuspecting businessman, IT leaves much to be desired. Ghanaians are still in a fix as to what went through their minds to engage in such a diabolic act.

The punishment meted out to them was therefore not a surprise, looking at the position they occupy, the responsibility placed on them and the tax payer’s resources made available to them.

It is a known fact that the Police Service lacks a lot of resources to enable policemen perform their duties to the best of their abilities. But, there is no justification whatsoever for this dastardly act that stinks to the heavens. After all, no public institution in the country can boast of having all its resources provided by government, yet they all strive to do their best.

These men are certainly bad nuts in the system, whose in incarceration is in the right direction and serves as a signed to likeminded men and women of the service that the long arm of the law shall soon catch up with them.

To the gallant men in the noble service who are working tirelessly to ensure peace and security in the country, The Catalyst wishes to say, kudos for your wonderful work.

This incident however brings to the fore the need for an overhaul of the Police Service to purge it of BAD nuts, whose actions tarnish the image of the entire force, leading to public distrust in them. Officers found to have compromised their integrity and principles should be justly disciplined to ensure sanity in the respectable institution that is fast losing what remains of its image.

The Police Service is indispensable to the nation so government ought to make it efficient through constant overhauls.
