| U-G Likely To Reinstate Suspended Students |

The acting Registrar of the University of Ghana, Enoch Amartey, has hinted that the nation’s premier university might consider reinstating six suspended students alleged to have sexually assaulted a suspected thief, Amina Haruna.
An Accra Circuit Court for want of prosecution last week discharged all the 13 male students of the University of Ghana.
According to Mr. Amartey, “if the court has said that they are free now the students can appeal to the Appeals Board of the University, then the issue will be reconsidered.”
He again revealed that the university is also ready to engage the aggrieved students in court to arrive at a final decision.
In a related development, the student leadership of Mensah Sarbah Hall of the University has also warned of a possible suit against the University if the six suspended students are not re-instated.
The President of Mensah Sarbah Hall, Edward Tutor, addressing a press conference Tuesday described the action taken by the University authorities against the students as unfair which in turn also sent out an indication that the school only sought to protect its image.
He stated that “the JCR sees the action of the management of the University of Ghana in the suspension of the alleged students as a wrong decision in respect of the fact that the institution failed to conduct a very fair, judicious and thorough investigation before arriving at the decision.”
Tutor further explained that even though they are in no way trying to justify the actions of the students, in the pursuance of justice further injustice should not be perpetuated.
