The Bawku Technical Institute (BTI) sited between Kpaliwiaga and Kpalugu in the Bawku Municipality, has over the years been confronted with encroachment by people of the two communities.

This situation is making it difficult for the school and government to initiate development projects to promote academic work.

Mr. Linus Gamou Tuli, Principal of the Institute, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Bawku, said the BTI with a population of about 2,000 students lacks enough dormitories and staff accommodation.

He said the Institute was contributing to national development by training the youth in electrical technology, creative arts, mechanical engineering technology, hospitality, plumbing, fashion and designing, wood technology, building and construction among others, but lacked enough classrooms to accommodate the students.

Mr. Tuli said some of the few workshops of the BTI had been converted into classrooms and this was affecting teaching and learning.

He called on individuals, non-governmental organisations, the Parent-Teacher Association of the Institute and Municipal Assembly to come to the aid of the BTI.

Vice Principal, Mr. Gariba Zakariah, called on government to support the Institute with logistics and educational infrastructure.
