The Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Professor Mawutor Avoke has been re-elected to serve another two-year term.

He polled 270 votes representing 72.2 per cent out of 374 members of convocation who cast their ballots and was subsequently approved by the University Council.

Prof. Avoke holds a Ph.D. Degree in Special Education from the University of Birmingham, England.

He joined the department of Special Education as an assistant lecturer in 1992/93 academic year and rose through the ranks to become an Associate Professor at the age of 39 and a Full Professor at 42.

Among the positions he has held in the University of Education are a former Director of the National Centre for Research into Basic Education, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Head of Department of Special Education, Chairman of Convocation and a Commonwealth Scholar.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview, Prof. Avoke pledged his preparedness to support the growth of the university by strengthening teaching and learning, research and the quality assurance aspect of the academic facility.

He said, he will also show more commitment to curriculum development, support more programmes and improve upon staff development to make the University a place of excellence in teacher education in the sub-region.

Prof. Avoke also pledged his support for the initiation of more innovative programmes and make University education accessible to all.
