The National Association of Graduate Teachers has called off its indefinite strike. The suspension of the strike was announced at a press conference addressed by the Association on Wednesday, March 3.

The teachers deserted the classrooms from Monday, March 1 to press home their demands for better conditions of service. They abandoned the classrooms because their outstanding car maintenance and responsibility allowances were not paid them.

But government has responded by releasing ten million Ghana cedis to take care of their grievances. The President of NAGRAT, Christian Addae Poku told Citi News that, the group decided to call off the strike after the GES met 90% of its demand.

“We were invited to the Minister’s conference room for a meeting. At the meeting we were briefed a lot and at the end of it all, we were briefed a lot and at the end of it all, we realized that there were a lot of evidence to show that the GES is committed to paying the money…we are about 90% to 98% through."

Mr. Addae Poku showed a cheque from the Ghana Education Service as evidence that government has responded to them for which reason they have called off the strike. He says most of the teachers will receive their monies by Friday, March 5.
