| Two Registration Officers granted bail over missing laptop computer |

The Agona Swedru Circuit Court on Thursday granted bail to two Registration Officers who appeared in court over a missing laptop computer and Webcam machine being used for the biometric Voter Registration exercise at the Roman Catholic Junior School registration Centre in Agona Swedru.
Theophilous Addo- Zota, head teacher of the Roman Catholic school and Registration Officer (RO), and Richard Enyan, Special Registration Officer pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of 20,000 Ghana Cedis each with three sureties.
They would reappear in court on May 3, 2012 and would report to the Agona Swedru District Police Command every Friday.
Police Inspector Alfred Boatey, prosecution told the court presided by Nathaniel E.K. Osam, that Addo-Zota and Enyan were Registration Officers at the Swedru Roman Catholic School Registration Centre since the exercise began on 24th March, 2012.
He said the two accused persons had been keeping the laptop and other machines in the office after close of work.
Inspector Boatey told the court on April 2, the two accused persons at about 06.50 hours came to the office to find that thieves had broken into the place and made away with the laptop and other machines kept there.
The Prosecution said the first accused person made report to the Police and was subsequently arrested with the second accused.
Police Inspector Boatey said the Police had sent the docket on the case to the Attorney General’s Department for advice.
Mr Alex Graham, an Agona Swedru legal practitioner is counsel for the accused persons.
He said his clients knew nothing about the stollen laptop and other machines as being claimed by the police.
Lawyer Graham said the laptop computers being used for the exercise were custom designed purposely for the biometric voter registration exercise and could not be used for any other purpose.
