| DOVSSU personnel need training in psychology |

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ransford Michael Minson, Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Commander, on Thursday called for intensive training in psychology for personnel of Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit (DVOSSU) of the Ghana Police Service.
He expressed worry that some personnel of DOVSSU did not have the capacity to undertake effective counseling and other psychological interventions for victims of domestic violence.
ACP Minson made the call at the opening of a two-day training workshop in psychology, organised by ActionAid Ghana, a non-governmental organization (NGO), for personnel of DOVSSU from Berekum, Wenchi and Sunyani, in Sunyani.
He noted that domestic violence was on the increase in the country, and expressed worry that after culprits of domestic violence are arrested and prosecuted traumatized victims are left unattended to.
ACP Minson stressed the need for counseling and other psychological interventions for victims of domestic violence.
He commended the NGO for organising the training and asked the participants to take it seriously so that they could acquire the necessary skills to enable them to effectively handle victims of domestic violence.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Kwaku Amoako, Brong-Ahafo Regional Coordinator of DOVVSU, who facilitated the training, took participants through counseling skills, crisis response counseling, effects of domestic violence on women and children, Domestic Violence Act 732 and the Criminal Act.
