A circuit court at Fiapre on Tuesday sentenced a 35-year-old man to 11 years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a seven-year-old class four pupil at Fiapre, near Sunyani.
Kwaku Mensah pleaded not guilty.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Kwaku Amoako, Brong-Ahafo Regional Coordinator of the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit, told the court that in September 2009 the convict spotted the victim selling yams and asked her to follow him to his house so he would buy some of the yams and the victim obliged.
After the convict had bought some of the yams he asked the victim to cook it for him after which the convict requested her to sleep with him.
“The victim refused to do so and the convict forcibly had sex with her and warned her not to tell anybody or else he would kill her”, he said.
Mr Amoako said the convict had sex with the victim on five other occasions until the victim’s parents detected some abnormality in her movement.
He said the victim later narrated her ordeal to her parents and led them to the convict’s house and with the help of some neighbours the convict was arrested and handed over to the police.
